This is a lovely video of a fling of dunlins by Portishead Pier. Such a wonderful sight as they twist and turn over the estuary. They can be hard to keep track of but when they turn their white bellies towards the camera they really sparkle. Thank you to Ian Wilson for sharing this great video with us.😃 ... See MoreSee Less

Remembering sunnier times on the reserve ☀️🐞
Does anyone know what species this little guy is!?
As far as I can tell it's a common blue damselfly with rather pale head markings? Correct me if I'm wrong though!!!
A gorgeous photo taken by @martinreed2624 THANKYOU for letting us post it ❤️👍

It was a cold and frosty January morning but things were hotting up on North Pool Island. The swans were kicking up a ruckus. Lots of chasing, wing flapping, trampling, clinches and biting.
BTW look out for the pochard, the duck with a dark chestnut head and black breast, we do not get too many of these here. . . . and the little lapwing which had to get out of the way of these colossal birds. ... See MoreSee Less
Look at this POSER!
Anyone who's been to the reserve will have seen the resident pair of Mute Swans, who are definitely bold enough to stand for a close up photo-shoot!

A Redshank 😍
These charismatic little waders aren't uncommon sights here in the winter out on the mud, but with their bright red legs I think they make great models!
